Stay-at-home and social-distancing guidelines have been very important and necessary during these unprecedented times. The new regulations, however, have not prevented Birdies for the Brave, our homefront groups and PGA TOUR tournaments from being innovative and continuing to give back to service members and their families in the community. Prior to stay-at-home orders, the PGA TOUR’s flagship event, THE PLAYERS Championship, hosted several events to recognize and honor military members, veterans and their families, including a Military Job Fair, Operation Shower and a Military Appreciation Day inclusive of a ceremony, a jet fly over, a military homecoming surprise and a concert by The Chainsmokers.

The guidelines have restricted further events from taking place, including Operation Shower, a baby shower hosted for soon-to-be military mothers and their spouses. This home front group has been tirelessly navigating the new landscape while continuing to try and carry out its mission- to ease the stress of deployment by hosting joyful baby showers for military families across the country.

Two PGA TOUR tournaments, the Valspar Championship and RBC Heritage, had originally planned to host Operation Shower events, but both tournaments were canceled in order to prioritize the health and safety of our communities.  However, rather than canceling the baby showers planned for these expectant military families, Operation Shower hosted “virtual showers” by shipping gifts and baby supplies to the deserving families, in addition to giving military families the opportunity to connect and celebrate with one another. Watch these virtual showers unfold at the Valspar Championship and RBC Heritage, including the special surprise one family received from Birdies for the Brave player supporter, Jim Furyk.

Let’s keep doing what’s necessary right now to stay healthy and safe, so that we can get back into the swing of things, together! In the meantime, we will continue to find creative ways to help support and serve the courageous men and women of the U.S. Armed Forces and their families.
