A few days prior to the national observance of Veteran’s Day, thousands gathered at Jacksonville National Cemetery to honor the life of a veteran who had no documented family. Among them were a dozen of members of THE PLAYERS’ volunteer leadership group (Red and Blue Coats) who joined the funeral service for Michael Allevato. Allevato died Oct. 14, 2017, of natural causes.
“Our military community is incredibly important to our area,” said Jared Rice, Executive Director, THE PLAYERS Championship. “It is because of this that we kick-off our PGA TOUR’s flagship event with a salute to our military members and their families.” This year is no exception as THE PLAYERS will host its annual Military Appreciation ceremony on March 10th on the iconic 17th Island Green at TPC Sawgrass. The 5:00 p.m. ceremony, featuring guest speakers and military pageantry, will conclude with a concert by the award-winning duo, The Chainsmokers, devoted military supporters. Up to 25,000 fans and military guests are expected to attend this celebrated event.
While the ceremony is a single day observance, military personnel including active duty, reservists, retirees, and their dependents and are celebrated throughout the week with free admission to the tournament, exclusive access to a 16,000 square-foot air-conditioned VIP hospitality tent (the Patriots’ Outpost, presented by United Rentals), and special charitable events and activities throughout the week. Veterans, who are also hosted in the Patriots Outpost, are provided an exclusive offer, permitting them to purchase up to two tickets each day at a discounted rate. In addition, THE PLAYERS supports other military appreciation activities including a job fair for military members and their spouses, and a baby shower for first-time military moms-to-be.
