For nine-time PGA TOUR winner Brandt Snedeker, giving back is a family affair. During this year’s Travelers Championship at TPC River Highlands, Snedeker and his family – wife, Mandy, and children Austin and Lily – visited the USS North Dakota at Naval Submarine Base New London as part of Birdies for the Brave to show appreciation to the more than 132 enlisted sailors and officers aboard. The fast-attack Virginia-class submarine supports the Chief of Naval Operations’ Maritime Strategy in supporting national security interests and maritime security operations, and recently returned from a six-month deployment to Europe.
During the visit, the Snedeker family took a tour of the nuclear submarine and surprised the crew with a delicious Chick-fil-A dinner. They also visited the Goose Run Golf Course on the base, where Snedeker conducted a Q&A, signed autographs, and spent time visiting with the sailors and their families. The experience proved to be as memorable for the sailors as it was for the Snedekers, whose commitment to children and families is underscored by the Brandt and Mandy Snedeker Foundation.
Established in 2012 after Snedeker won the 2012 FedExCup, the Foundation has raised more than $1 million for charities across Middle Tennessee that benefit children and families in the region. The Foundation supports a variety of efforts on both the social and athletic fronts, including Our Kids, which provides expert medical evaluations and crisis counseling services in response to concerns of child sexual abuse, while also working to increase community awareness, education and training about child maltreatment.
