Thirty military moms-to-be were honored during an Operation Shower/Birdies for the Brave group baby shower on Wednesday of tournament week at the Valspar Championship, which took place last week at Innisbrook Resort & Golf Club in Palm Harbor. All of the moms were either active duty themselves, or the spouse of a deployed or active duty service member from MacDill Air Force Base and the U.S. Coast Guard. The event’s guest host and emcee was Kourtney Marchino, fiancé of PGA TOUR player Adam Schenk and a member of the PGA TOUR Wives Association.
Conducted in partnership with Birdies for the Brave, a collaboration of PGA TOUR Inc., PGA TOUR Charities, Inc., and the TPC Network, the “Surf’s Up”-themed event was presented by Milan Homes in partnership with Ten23 Designs, with support from the PGA TOUR Wives Association, the Valspar Championship, the Steven A. Cohen Military Family Clinic at Aspire Health Partners, and the Innisbrook Resort & Golf Club. In addition to lunch, each of the honored moms received Operation Shower’s signature “Shower In A Box” – a gift of high-quality products for mothers and babies that have been donated by companies including 4moms and Skip Hop.
Other activities hosted during the week designed to celebrate and extend gratitude to military members, veterans and their families included a Callaway Warrior Club Fitting in which two local wounded heroes were fitted with their own custom set of Callaway clubs; a military appreciation ceremony featuring a parachute team, remarks by Florida Governor Ron DeSantis and his wife, Casey, as well as PGA TOUR player and Birdies for the Brave supporter Billy Hurley III, and the participation of Miss Florida, Nicolette Jennings; the opportunity for active duty military members from MacDill Air Force Base to caddie for PGA TOUR players on the 17th hole during the Wednesday Pro-Am, which included the participation of former New York Yankees pitcher Roger Clemens; and the chance for active duty military members from MacDill Air Force Base to serve as pin flag attendants during all four rounds of competition on Sunday on the 16th green, where the pin flag was replaced with an American flag. From Thursday through Sunday, military guests and veterans received complimentary or discounted tickets to the tournament, along with complimentary food and beverages and prime tournament viewing in the Birdies for the Brave Patriots’ Outpost presented by Pinch-A-Penny.
