PGA TOUR TOURNAMENTS ROLL OUT RED CARPET FOR MILITARY MOM-TO-BE IN 2019

In the military, families serve too; and whether they are serving on the front lines or keeping everything running smoothly at home so their loved ones can proudly serve our country during deployment, expectant military moms face enormous challenges as they celebrate the impending arrival of a child.  To thank these women for their extraordinary efforts and provide them with an opportunity to share camaraderie with others in the same situation, Birdies for the Brave will once again join forces with the non-profit Operation Shower to host group baby showers for military moms-to-be at more than seven PGA TOUR tournaments in 2019.

Each shower features a unique theme and includes lunch, prize giveaways, games, and the highlight of the event, the distribution of Operation Shower’s signature Showers In A Box – gifts of high-quality items for the moms and babies that have been generously donated by sponsors and individual supporters.

The first Operation Shower event of the year was held during the Waste Management Phoenix Open Presented by The Ak-Chin Indian Community at TPC Scottsdale, where 36 military moms-to-be were treated to a colorful “Fiesta”-themed baby shower sponsored by PRO EM Party & Event Rentals, with the Waste Management Phoenix Open, Discover Financial Services, The Mahan Foundation, M Catering and Power Crunch providing support.  Among the special guests helping to honor the moms at the shower were Nicole Phelps, wife of World Champion swimmer Michael Phelps and a brand ambassador for Huggies® Diapers; PGA TOUR player Hunter Mahan, who serves as a PGA TOUR Player Supporter of Birdies for the Brave on behalf of Operation Shower and is co-founder of the Mahan Foundation; and Mahan’s wife and Foundation co-founder, Kandi Mahan.

Continuing the tradition, of honoring military families, three more Operation Shower events will be hosted at tournaments during the next four weeks.  On February 27, the Honda Classic will host 22 military moms-to-be during a shower at PGA National Resort and Spa, where Maggie Streb, wife of PGA TOUR player Robert Streb, will serve as guest host and emcee.  Milan Homes in partnership with Ten23 Designs will be Presenting Sponsor of the event, with the PGA TOUR Wives Association serving as a Supporting Sponsor.  On March 10, THE PLAYERS Championship will join with Birdies for the Brave and United Rentals to host an Operation Shower event for 40 military moms-to-be whose spouses are deployed members of the U.S. Navy and U.S. Air Force.  The event will take place in the Birdies for the Brave Patriots’ Outpost military-exclusive hospitality chalet located on the 16th  tee box of THE PLAYERS Stadium Course at TPC Sawgrass, with Tabitha Furyk serving as guest host/emcee and THE PLAYERS Proud Partners Morgan Stanley, Optum and Grant Thornton donating product along with Chicco.  Special guests at the shower will include Captain and Mrs. Michael Connor, Commanding Officer of NAS Jacksonville; Captain and Mrs. Brian Weiss, Executive Officer of NAS Jacksonville; and Commander Patricia Tyler, Executive Officer of Naval Station Mayport.  And on March 20, the Valspar Championship will honor 30 moms during an Operation Shower event sponsored by Milan Homes in partnership with Ten23 Designs, with support from the PGA TOUR Wives Association, the Valspar Championship and Innisbrook Resort & Golf Club.

“Experiencing pregnancy during deployment can be incredibly challenging,” said Operation Shower Founder and Chief Shower Officer LeAnn Morrissey.  “We are delighted to join with the PGA TOUR, Birdies for the Brave and PGA TOUR tournaments nationwide to let these amazing moms know how much they are loved and appreciated.
