SCOTTSDALE, Ariz. – Shortly after shanking the ball directly into the stands of 20,000 screaming fans on TPC Scottsdale’s No. 16, actor Mark Wahlberg, who was playing with Bubba Watson in the Wednesday Pro-Am at the Waste Management Phoenix Open, walked up to the No. 18 tee and showed his support for the men and women of our U.S. Armed Forces. Standing behind the tee box were 20 active duty service members from Luke Air Force Base, whose mission for the day was to caddie for some of their favorite TOUR players and celebrities as part of the Birdies for the Brave Military Caddie Program. Military personnel took their turns looping the par-4 No. 18 with TOUR players and celebrities including Jake Owen, Tim Tebow and Ben Roethlisberger. However, the real A-listers that day were the courageous men and women who serve our country.
The red carpet treatment continued throughout the week as military members and their families were welcomed to TPC Scottsdale with complimentary admission as well as access to the Birdies for the Brave Patriots’ Outpost. Located along the No. 18 fairway with tee to green views of the action, the military-exclusive, patriotic-themed Outpost provided guests with complimentary lunch and an opportunity to share camaraderie with other services members while watching some of the best professional golfers in the world compete in the Greatest Show On Grass.
