TEMPUR-PEDIC® hosts Military Care Package event at Deutsche Bank Championship to give back to troops overseas

As a sponsor of the Deutsche Bank Championship and as a part of its ongoing #BeyondVeteransDay campaign, Tempur-Pedic® will host the Tempur-Pedic® Military Care Package event on the grounds at TPC Boston where care packages will be created and stuffed for troops overseas. Selected PGA TOUR professionals, including Hunter Mahan, will be paired with #BeyondVeteransDay military veterans from the local area to lead teams in a competition to see who can create the most care packages. These care packages will include a message and practical items that the troops can use while they are deployed.

About the Participating Military Veterans

  • Army Sergeant Christopher Gomes (New Bedford, MA) – Lost his right leg in Iraq in 2008 after the vehicle he was riding in was struck by explosive projectiles.
  • Army Specialist Sean Pesce (New Haven, CT) – Paralyzed from waist down after taking fire from insurgents in Afghanistan in 2012.
  • Marine Corporal Kevin Blanchard (Charlottesville, VA) – Lost his left leg in an IED explosion in Iraq in 2005.

The Tempur-Pedic #BeyondVeteransDay campaign is a movement designed to recognize and thank military veterans throughout the year, not just on Veterans Day. The Deutsche Bank Championship marks the third time Tempur-Pedic has honored military veterans during the 2015 PGA TOUR season, including the sponsorship of the Military Patriots Outpost at TPC Boston. Fans are encouraged to thank a veteran they know and share the #BeyondVeteransDay hashtag on social media. For every 100 hashtags used, Tempur-Pedic will donate a mattress to a veteran. Tempur-Pedic has donated more than 30,000 mattresses a year to charities supporting military personnel as well as veterans and many other causes.
