In 2006, PGA TOUR player Phil Mickelson created Birdies for the Brave to lend a helping hand to military members, wounded veterans and their families, who sacrifice so much in service to our country. This week, thanks to the support of Callaway Golf, Mickelson had the chance to also lend a glove.
AKRON, Ohio – Kent State University showed its appreciation to military members and their families by hosting a military-exclusive hospitality chalet during the World Golf Championships-Bridgestone Invitational at the historic Firestone Country Club August 5-9 – where members of the military and their families were treated to complimentary admission thanks to supporting sponsorship by Quicken Loans.
Open from Thursday through Sunday of tournament week, the Birdies for the Brave Patriots’ Outpost Presented by Kent State University offered military guests complimentary food and beverages and a relaxing venue for viewing all of the tournament action. On Saturday the tournament hosted a military appreciation ceremony that included a the singing of the national anthem, a variety of special presentations, and an address by senior military leaders including Chief Master Sergeant Mitchell Brush, Senior Enlisted Advisor for the National Guard Bureau.
