(March 12, 2015 — Palm Harbor, Fla.) It was a day of honor and support for the military today at the Valspar Championship. Billy Hurley III, in his sponsorship with Valspar, teamed up with Gary Hendrickson, CEO of Valspar to surprise Master Chief Joe Mulder LSCM (AW/SW) with an autographed golf bag. Master Chief Joe, who is originally from Sacramento, CA, has 23 years of service in the Navy, including two tours on two aircraft carriers and other deployments in Iraq and Afghanistan.

“At Valspar, we like to salute the best of the best,” said Gary Hendrickson, CEO of Valspar. “So we asked SoCom who was the best of the best and they said Joe. And since he works at SoCom, he’s the best of the best of the best of the best.”

Master Chief Mulder’s military background is extensive, having deployments under his belt that also include supporting the Blue Angels, whose goal it is to showcase the pride and professionalism of the United States Navy and Marine Corps by inspiring a culture of excellence and service to country through flight demonstrations and community outreach. Joe’s wife Diana stood alongside him today, as she has for 20 years, when he received his signed golf bag.

Billy Hurley III is the only active PGA player on the tour who has served in the military. Hurley served in the Navy for five years and has voiced his appreciation and support publicly for all branches of the military while on the PGA TOUR.

Today’s surprise took place at the 16th Green Patriot Outpost – a hospitality tent that is open to any active or retired members of the military during the Valspar Championship. To honor the members of the U.S. Armed Forces, the Valspar Championship is offering two complimentary tickets per day for active duty military members and military retirees.
