Lend Lease (US) Community Fund raises $226,000 for military families, veterans

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (Sept. 10, 2014) — Lend Lease (US) Community Fund (LLCF), in partnership with PGA TOUR’s Birdies for the Brave, raised $226,000 yesterday at the second annual 18 FORE MILITARY FAMILIES Golf Tournament, with all proceeds benefitting organizations and programming that support US military, military families and veterans.
In addition to raising funds for Lend Lease (US) Community Fund’s BlueStar Scholarships Program, the tournament, which was held Tuesday, Sept. 9 at the Governors Club in Brentwood, supported nonprofits including the Wounded Warrior Project, Operation Stand Down, and Operation Shower, among others. Approximately 100 players participated from local, regional and national corporations, including players from title sponsor Bank of America Merrill Lynch, representatives from platinum sponsors IHG (InterContinental Hotels Group) and WinnResidential, former Tennessee Titans Kerry Collins, Brad Hopkins, Chris Hope and Benji Olson, and PGA TOUR’s Tour player, Chris Bray.
Dan Nevins, who spent more than 8 years in the U.S. Army and was a distinguished honor graduate from Noncomissioned Officer School, also participated in the golf tournament on Tuesday. Nevins suffered extensive injuries during his 2004 tour of duty in Iraq when an IED exploded beneath his vehicle. After spending 18 months recovering from his injuries, Nevins was awarded the George C. Lang Award for Courage by the Wounded Warrior Project. He now travels the country telling his inspirational story of recovery and dedication as the Director of Warriors Speak for Wounded Warrior Project. Nevins told his story Monday night at a tournament-sponsored dinner, where Fort Campbell Garrison Commander Col. David Dellinger spoke to the support the LLCF has provided military families in the Middle Tennessee area.
“Lend Lease works closely with the Department of Defense to provide on-post family housing communities that improve the quality of life for military personnel across the country,” said Marc Sierra, Lend Lease (US) Public Partnerships Managing Director and Lend Lease (US) Community Fund Chairman of the Board. “We appreciate the constant sacrifices that our servicemen and women and their families make, and we’re honored to hold this tournament so that we can give back to them in any way we can.”
