Player Profile – Vijay Singh
During his nearly 30 years as a professional golfer, Fiji native Vijay Singh has distinguished himself among the top players in the world. He joined the PGA TOUR in 1993, earning Rookie of the Year honors, and since that time has amassed 34 PGA TOUR titles – including the 2000 Masters and two PGA Championships.
His career year was 2004, when he made 12 Top 10s in a row and took home nine titles, making him one of only six players in PGA TOUR history to post nine or more wins in a single season and becoming the first golfer to earn $10 million in a single season. The same year, he became the #1-ranked player in the world.
Known for his legendary work ethic, Singh remains one of the world’s best players well into his 40’s, and in 2008 proved his mettle by winning the FedExCup title. Also legendary is Vijay’s support for charity. The Vijay Singh Charitable Foundation benefits charities and non-profits that assist and support women and children who are victims of domestic abuse.
Singh’s Support of Navy SEAL Foundation
Singh truly believes in the Navy SEAL Foundations’ mission to provide educational support through scholarships and tuition assistance; to promote health and welfare programs including tragedy assistance programs for families of fallen Navy SEALs; and to maintain the Special Warfare community’s strong history through monuments and publications designed to preserve and recognize their rich heritage.
Singh will be showing his personal support for the Navy SEAL Foundation by participating in fundraising events at TPC clubs and engaging in Birdies for the Brave community outreach activities surrounding PGA TOUR tournaments designed to enlist the public’s appreciation and support for all members of the Naval Special Warfare community.
